After he had bathed in the Lohit River, his sin was absolved and the axe that was stuck to his hand, finally fell off. This site where Lord Parshuram performed his ablutions became a sacred place, which we now know as Parshuram Kund meaning "Parshuram's pond". Many people believe that taking a dip in the sacred water cleanses the sins and brings peace of mind to the soul.

Every year in the month of January, especially around the time of Makar Sankranti, thousands of pilgrims and tourists come to Parshuram Kund. At the same time, a large fair takes place to draw people from different parts of India. People get into the cold waters of the river early in the morning, praying to Lord Parshuram.
